Dear Bruce

I remember the first time I called my Dad from a phone in the bathroom of a hotel. I think it was Chicago. I know it sounds odd but it was a time before cell phones and I wanted to let him know that I was okay as I was hanging out in places that housed people so important that they needed phones in the toilets. They seemed so classy back then. Now they seem archaic and strange. Like bathroom attendants at a busted down club that used to be filled with starlets and high rollers. Its still a joke with me and my Dad. Every once in a while I will call and if I say Im in a hotel he will ask with a chuckle "Are you in the bathroom?"
